Turton young farmer face of convention

AN East Lancashire farmer will fly the flag for the region at the annual Young Farmers Convention this weekend.

Sarah Lees, from Turton Young Farmers Club, won the annual competition to be the ‘Face of Convention’ for the event in Blackpool.

It means she will be photographed throughout the weekend and also receive passes to the VIP bar and get a chance to meet Radio One DJs.

Her photographs will then be used to show other members what it is like to be at the convention and will feature heavily on the website, as well as being on the cover of the next Young Farmers Club magazine.

The event started yesterday (FRI) and runs until Monday.

Sarah, 20, lives and works on Park Farm in Ramsbottom, owned by her parents, but harbours ambitions of becoming a lawyer, specialising in agricultural land disputes.

In order to win the competition, Sarah had to send in 50 words on why she should be the face of the convention.

And she won the judges over by sharing the fact her parents first met at the convention in 1989 in the Winter Gardens and this would be her first time at the event.

Her parents were both members of Bury YFC, a club that Sarah also has connections with as her boyfriend is the chairman.

She said: “I applied for the competition because I thought it would be a good laugh and make my first AGM a bit more memorable.

“I was very surprised to win. I think Turton Young Farmers Club will be proud.

“We are a very small club so it is a good promotion for us.”
