MOUNTAIN rescuers stretchered a 60-year-old woman to safety after she fell and fractured her leg near a reservoir.

At 12.35pm yesterday, the ambulance service requested the help of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team after being called to Entwistle Reservoir, just outside Darwen.

The woman had been walking with her husband along a narrow footpath when she had tripped and hurt her leg.

She was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew before being evacuated using a specialist mountain rescue stretcher and taken to one of the team’s Land Rovers, which had driven into the upper reaches of the Cadshaw valley.

She was then taken to hospital by an ambulance waiting near the Green Arms Road junction.
