It has been a slow start to the season for Upper Wharfedale with both their teams struggling to get 11 players due to commitments of players to other sports, and a general lack of enthusiasm towards cricket.

However the club is rallying together with the mantra of survive, revive and thrive and this attitude gave the club its a winning draw at New Rover on Saturday On winning the toss, Dale jumped at the chance to bat first.

The new opening partnership of Dave Eggleton and Joe Daggett did not disappoint as they cantered to a 184 first-wicket partnership.

Daggett fell first, for which 72 was a great effort from a teenager setting his standards high this season.

Eggleton went next for a well-deserved 110 off 119 balls, a dogged innings of determination rather than fleuency.

This left enough time for a cameo from Wilson (25) and Lockett (20), however wickets fell regularly in the search of quick runs.

The innings finished on 273-7, and some felt that this could be 30 runs to few.

Josh Gill set the tone in an excellent first spell which saw him rewarded with figures of 4-14 off 12 overs.

His good work was built on by Lockett and Clarke. The Giggleswick pair leaked only 25 runs between them in a critical passage of the game.

Clarke was rewarded with two important wickets as New Rover were kept in check.

The pressure had been built and was too great in the end for Rover.

The home side finished on 171-7 which was testament to the accuracy of the bowlers.

The Greens also had their National Village KO game conceded by opposition Rainton. This takes Wharfedale to the next round against Moorsholme from near Saltburn.

A good cup run in this competition will be a welcome boost for the club.
