Vandals attack cars in Darwen

VANDALS have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to cars during a late night spate of attacks.
Around eight vehicles are believed to have had wing mirrors kicked off leaving motorists with an unwanted Christmas gift when they woke up.
Councillor Roy Davies, who represents the Sudell ward, was one of those affected.
He said: “There were around eight wing mirrors kicked off along Olive Lane on Christmas Day night and into the early hours of Boxing Day. The people that have done this are scum, and I’m fuming.
“People need to stand up for themselves.
“If anyone knows who has done this they need to come forward and report them to the police. Someone knows who has done this.”
Coun Davies said the wing mirrors were vandalised between 11pm and 8am.
“After everyone has spent all their money on enjoying the Christmas break, someone’s idea of enjoyment is going down the street and kicking wing mirrors off.
“It’s not a major crime and we can’t expect policemen on every street but it’s going to cost some car owners hundreds of pounds to put the damage right.
“If people claim on their insurance, then their premiums are going to go up so it’s not worth it. These minor crimes have consequences. Some of the mirrors have been smashed and others are hanging on by a thread. People are having to tape their wing mirrors back on to their cars.”
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “This was reported to us and we are going to look into it. If anybody saw or heard anything they should get in touch with Lancashire Police on 101.”

This is what should be expected. Police numbers have been cut in Darwen, as they all work from Blackburn station now. Things have got worse ever since. But they say, according to the figures, crime is falling!!!!!! Why isn't someone like Coun Davies wanting to compare crime figures before and after the policing cut changes????
Sudell and Earcroft are rated worst areas for crime in the Borough but is no worse than 12 months ago. Sharpest incline has been in ASB which you expect given family pressures. Law and order in general should rapidly decline during a recession but this has not been the case. The cuts to Police Services haven't helped but we are not YET descending into a free-for-all.
Half a dozen drunken scrotes can make a hell of a difference to statistics during a night out so you could probably argue with full confidence that the statistics mean nothing, but you DID ask the question.

The changes in Darwen policing happened approx July 2011 (18mths ago)..I went to the Town Meeting about the changes, just before then....do you have figures from before that period as a comparrison??

All crime has been dropping for many years now. It dropped by 43% between 1997-May 2010. Darwen has mirrored the national trend.

However, more recently, probably because of the recession & the Govt cutting funding to the Police by 20% this reduction has slowed down.
*
The BCS stats in a couple of years time will be interesting as these will reflect the recession & the effect of police cuts / recent reduction in the numbers of police.

I even asked a group of lads to get of the bonnet and was asked "why"?!!!!
when I responded that it was my car and I didnt want them sitting on it, they told me in which direction I should go forth and multiply or they would get their uncle to come and sort it!!
no respect is the biggest issue and this comes from poor weak parenting where structure, boundries and and routine are all sadly not implimented into their lives and as a result we get this type of culture, so although these young people are to blame in some part, it is the fault of two previous generations as the why we are all having these type of issues now.
