Darwen woman fined for dumping rubbish in alleyway

A DARWEN woman has to pay nearly £600 after she dumped rubbish in the alley behind her house.

Kelly Fisher, of Olive Lane, was charged with failing to comply with a Section 46 notice of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, by not disposing of her rubbish properly. The case was brought before Blackburn Magistrates Court by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

The court heard that a large pile of bin bags was found dumped to the rear of Olive Lane and evidence recovered from the scene pointed to Miss Fisher.

She was fined £70 and ordered to pay £513.81 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Coun Faryad Hussain, executive member for environmental improvement and sustainability, said: “We will continue to prosecute anyone found guilty of dumping rubbish in our borough.

“Furthermore, we will name and shame them in the local press so I hope people will think twice if they are thinking of doing this.

“The community spirit found in abundance elsewhere across the borough has been to the fore as part of our Your Call campaign and it is that fantastic work we want to be publicising, not mindless actions like these.”

That depends on whether she ever pays the fine.

If she can't pay the fine then she should pay it off with community service at minimum wage rate, preferably litter picking

All strength to their elbow and hope they catch all those who make our towns such a mess - we should all be ashamed of the littered state which surrounds us.

If anyone is stupid enough to leave evidence leading the authorities back to their own front door in the waste they're fly tipping then perhaps they deserve a whopper of a fine...
