THE first winner of Blackburn Youth Zone’s diversity group member of the month award has been announced.
Disabled Asad Khaliq was awarded a gift card to spend at The Mall for his outstanding work as part of the groups, which are led by Teen Leaders. The Lancashire Telegraph is campaigning to raise £60,000 to turn 100 youngsters into Teen Leaders. They will help to mentor and support disabled young people, such as Asad, who said: “I am very happy and honoured to receive the award and really enjoy coming here to the Youth Zone.”
Laura Walker, manager of the club for young people with disabilities at the Youth Zone, in Jubilee Street, said: “Asad is so helpful and supportive of other members. He has come so far on his own personal journey. We have seen his confidence grow, and that shows in how he interacts with others. He is amazing.”
