BLACKBURN'S People's Choir will be celebrating 10 years of singing with a special concert tomorrow night.

The choir was launched in 1998 by seven people who had sung together at a folk song workshop and were keen to carry on performing together.

Today the choir is well-known throughout the North West with 70 members and a waiting list for people to join.

The choir will perform the special 10 year anniversary concert at Darwen Library Theatre tomorrow at 7.30pm.

Don Banks will act as Master of Ceremonies.

Choir secretary Ann Parker said: "I joined the choir 10 years ago when there were just a few people determined to keep on singing. We have 70 members now and a waiting list.

"We're a community choir and we don't hold auditions - we encourage anyone who wants to try out choral singing to believe in themselves and their voice too.

"Many people believe that they can't sing because they were discouraged at school or by their families."

Choir musical director Jeff Borradaile added: "This choir is fantastically enthusiastic.

"They sing for the local community as much as possible.

"They are a great group of people who have a lot of fun and work hard to get a good sound."
