Blackburn Rovers to hold minute's silence for tragic fan

A MINUTE’S silence will be observed before Wednesday's Blackburn Rovers match in memory of a loyal fan who died after the weekend’s game at Stoke.

Fans at Ewood Park will fall silent in memory of season ticket holder John Taylor, who was described by his family as a “massive” Rovers fan, ahead of the evening match against Hull City.

The 30-year-old suffered fatal injuries in the concourse of Stoke’s Britannia Stadium just after half time, and died in hospital in the early hours of Sunday.

Police are still investigating the incident, and it is understood he was hit by a bin.

Yesterday shirts and scarves, and a pint of lager, were added to the statue of Sir Jack Walker outside Ewood Park.

In a moving message attached to a bunch of flowers, his mother Susan, who was at his bedside at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire when he died, wrote: “John, you died in my arms and a part of me died with you.”

Another message said: “I am going to miss you forever, Katy”.

The father-of-one’s Rovers scarf was draped around Sir Jack’s neck.

Manager Sam Allardyce said: "It is a great tragedy that has happened. "I have never heard anything like this in my entire life. It is a great shame.

"Our sympathies go out to his family and we will doing our utmost in terms of respect for him tomorrow.

"If it helps the family in some way, we will get them a win and three valuable points."

Meanwhile, Staffordshire Police have appealed for people who may have recorded the incident on their mobile phones to come forward.

The force released a statement asking witnesses to call its Major Investigations Department on 01785 233600, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

A perfect dedication to the sad loss of a loyal Rovers supporter would be a complete rethink of the game itself. The extravagant costs involved both in management and players are slowly destroying the game as a whole. Those who can buy the best players wins at the expense of the true supporters who are always asked to pay the bill for their successes.
Manchester City being a perfect example. Lower the silly costs involved both in management and players and the game will return to what it should be. A game to be proud of!
So, to Sam Allardyce and his business colleagues: Lets have some verbal outgoings for a little less management and player greed and a lot more concern for the game itself. What better way could there ever be as a dedication to our true supporters of the game!
