CANNABIS plants worth more than £10,000 were seized during a police raid on a terrace house after a tip-off from local residents.

Police officers discovered approximately 60 plants at the property in Hardman Street, Blackburn, in the early hours of this morning.

They are now hunting for two people connected with the property, which is in the Griffin area of town, but no arrests have so far been made.

According to police, the raid was carried out follow-ing information from local residents concerned over suspicious behaviour at the house.

A spokesman for Blackburn Police said: “We executed a warrant at the address and found 60 plants.

“They were located in bedrooms on the first floor of the house.

“This was a significant seizure by us and the plants could be worth around £200 each, which means the whole crop could total around £12,000.

“Many of the plants were in the later stages of maturity and were ready to be harvested.”

Inquiries are continuing following the raid, and police said a sophisticated hydroponics system was being used at the house to help grow the plants.

An area outside the house was cordoned off for several hours after the raid.

Blackburn Police urged any residents to contact them if they were concerned over suspicious behaviour in their local area.

Police are keen to hear from anyone with information relating to the house in Hardman Street and urged anyone who can help to contact Blackburn Police on 01254 51212, or Crimestoppers – anonymously and free – on 0800 555111.
