Manager Lisa McGarrigan said: “We are well underway with our plans to build the new Travelodge brand. We’re investing more than £100 million on modernising our hotels for our customers and it is great news that Blackburn M65 Travelodge is to benefit.

“In 2014, we enjoyed double digit growth due to the rise in business and leisure customers.

“Our new modernised hotel will ensure that we continue to grow sales and become the favourite hotel for value in the area.”

The hotel, at junction four Darwen Services will receive a complete make-over, including a new room design created by Travelodge customers.

The biggest investment in the new room is an upgraded new luxury king size bed called the Travelodge Dreamer, which boasts a 952 pocket strung mattress.

Truckle beds, which slide under full-sized beds, will also be installed into family rooms for children.

The hotel’s reception area will also be updated.

“This is good news and it’s important we have decent good hotel accommodation within the borough.”

The work is expected to take three weeks and is expected to be finished by winter.

The Travelodge opened in 2002 and employs eight people. The news of the refurbishment came just days after developer Praxis unveiled plans for a 65-bedroom Travelodge to be built as part of a new multi-million pound business and recreation park on the border of Blackburn and Hyndburn.

New details on the proposals were shown off at the Red Lion pub, in Whitebirk Road, Blackburn, while the public was also invited to give their opinions on the estate, which will run adjacent to junction six of the M65 motorway on a 36-hectare site, beside the old Mother Redcap pub in Blackburn Road, Intack.
