BOSSES at Blackburn Rovers have said they will undertake a review of the club’s official parking after two journalists’ cars were vandalised.

Teesside newspaper The Evening Gazette’s Middlesbrough writers Phil Tallentire and Anthony Vickers discovered their cars had been broken into while they were parked on the Albion Road car park during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Ewood.

The two cars, a Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Astra, had windows smashed with bricks and panels dented in the attack.

Mr Tallentire and Mr Vickers, having been unable to locate the police station in Blackburn or an open garage to repair the damage, then drove back to Middlesbrough with windows missing and glass strewn across the car interiors of their cars.

The car park, which is manned by stewards before and immediately after matches, is where the club sends all journalists covering games at Ewood Park.

Mr Tallentire said: “We arrived about 1pm and it was about 6.45pm by the time we got back to our cars and we were the last ones on there.

“It did feel a bit dicey going back to the cars at that time as there isn’t much lighting at that time.

“We have parked there many times before and never had a problem.”

In a statement, a spokesman for Blackburn Rovers said: “The car park used by the media on match days, on a complimentary basis, is owned and managed by the local authority and its contracted staff.

“Official club car parking is available to members of the media, as well as supporters from both clubs, on match days.

“However, in light of these recent incidents, we will review the situation in discussion with the local authorities.”

A spokesman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “It is unfortunate this has happened but, as with all the many council-owned car parks in the borough, vehicles are left at the owners’ risk.

“The club has not come to us as yet but I am sure if they do report something to the council then we will talk to them.”

A spokeswoman for Blackburn police said the incident had since been reported to them and an investigation was under way.
