EAST Lancashire-based charity Al-Imdaad Foundation UK has once again delivered thousands of pounds worth of much-needed food aid to Syrian refugees.

As part of an ongoing initiative that was carried out throughout 2014, The Al-Imdaad Foundation team made regular trips to refugee camps on the Syrian border to oversee the delivery of flour to bakeries in the camps.

Last month the team travelled to Turkey for their final visit of 2014.

They visited the borders of Syria and delivered 10 trucks fully laden with flour, worth around £100,000.

The flour was paid for using money given by donors in East Lancashire and other parts of the UK.

Charity bosses sai it was purchased in Turkey and then taken to the bakeries in the refugee camps.

Each truck contained 25 tons of flour, which will be turned into Naan breads, and the bread from each truck will be enough to feed 6,000 Syrian refugees on a daily basis for a month.

The total delivery of 250 tons of flour will feed 180,000 refugees in a month.

The delegation was made up of 10 members, including two key members of the Al-Imdaad Foundation's staff, accounts manager Hassan Karolia and graphic designer Sufyaan Valimulla.

As well as overseeing delivery of the flour, the delegation visited an orphanage centre, rehabilitation centre and visited refugees at the camps.

International Projects Coordinator of Al-Imdaad Foundation UK Zubair Vali said: "The flour Project has been one of our finest and most high impact initiative of 2014 bringing much needed comfort to poverty stricken Syrian families.

"The conflict which is now in its 4th year is no nearer to coming to a truce, however the Al-Imdaad foundation will continue with all our relief efforts to show our solidarity of serving humanity."
