CARL Fogarty has thanked his fans for voting him King of the Jungle.

The Blackburn-born superbike champ chomped his way to victory on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here after biting down on horror foods, including ostrich anus, baked tarantula, and camel penis at the weekend.

The 49-year-old four -times world champion paid tribute to his fans after emerging victorious from the Australian jungle to tearfully take his throne as the ITV show’s deserved winner.

He said: “I’ve just had a shower, and I’m trying to take it all in. Just a massive, massive thank you to all the fans in the UK for spending your money and for voting for me to be your king of the jungle.

“It means the absolute world to me. I’m so emotional that I’ve had so much support.”

Foggy beat former X Factor contestant and bookies’ favourite for the title Jake Quickenden, plus TV presenter Melanie Sykes, in the final of the ITV show. He endured three weeks in the jungle braving grim bushtucker trials to beat 11 other celebrities.

After wrapping his arms around wife Michaela, who last week called on Lancashire Telegraph readers to back her husband, Carl told presenters Ant and Dec: “I think it’s all a dream. Someone’s playing a trick on me.

“This is the best thing that has ever happened. It’s absolutely mental. I don’t know what, but I must have done something right.”

Foggy was dubbed Crocodile Dundee by his fellow camp mates, and will be perhaps as well remembered for his bromance with former footballer Jimmy Bullard as for winning the show.

After leaving the jungle, Fogarty said: “He’s just completely mental, he’s absolutely nuts. I’ve got to try and avoid him [at the wrap party]. I can’t keep up with him, he just drinks and drinks and drinks.”

Foggy said his trophy — a large wooden staff — was causing him problems. He said: “I’m wondering how I’m going to get it through customs at the airport. It’s been broken already.”

The final drew an average of 10.4 million, including viewers of the catch-up +1 channel, while 10.9 million tuned in to see the climax of the series last year.
