A 19-YEAR-OLD MAN was airlifted to hospital following a crash in Blackburn this morning.

The pedestrian was knocked down by a car around 9:30am.

It is understood he suffered head injuries in the incident on Barbara Castle Way.

The crossroad junction between the main road and Penny Street was partially closed to allow for accident investigation work and emergency services.

The entire length of Barbara Castle Way from Eanam towards Preston New Road was closed.

The air ambulance landed in Oriole Close and the patient was transferred from a road ambulance into the helicopter.

Sergeant Sean Cunningham of the Road Policing Unit said: “We would like to thank those witnesses at the scene who have already helped us with our enquiries and we would urge anyone that may have seen what happened, but who haven’t already spoken to us, to get in touch as soon as possible.”
