But today, his family has thanked East Lancashire residents who got in touch with them with information about Ray’s whereabouts after seeing an appeal for information in the Lancashire Telegraph.

The charity Help The Homeless had also been pleading for information about Ray on social media.

His son-in-law Russell Neal, said Ray was found in Blackburn and it was hoped he would be found new accommodation in Burnley so he could be near his family.

Mr Neal said: “The article in the Lancashire Telegraph was fantastic and really did its job.

“We had so many people from all over Lancashire call us after seeing it saying they had seen from. It was absolutely fantastic.

“We are really relieved to have found Ray. He is not doing too badly, but he is not very good on his legs.”
