Blackburn schoolboy strikes up correspondence with top celebrities
A BLACKBURN schoolboy has developed an unusal hobby — writing letters to the movers and shakers of the United Kingdom.
Witton Park High School pupil Mohammed Hasnain started his letter-writing mission at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June last year.
Mohammed, 12, wrote to the Queen to congratulate her on her 60-year reign, and when she wrote back it encouraged the youngster to keep writing letters.
He has already written to lots of famous faces, including author JK Rowling, Prime Minister David Cameron, tycoon Sir Richard Branson, Take That singer and X Factor judge Gary Barlow, and Blackburn MP Jack Straw.
He has received replies to most of his missives and has kept a file with responses from the Queen, Mr Cameron, JK Rowling and Mr Straw.
Next on his list is to write to are Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, and Islamic scholar Imam Khalid Hussain, who is based in Leicester.
Mohammed said: “I’m interested in writing. I first started at the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. I wrote to the Queen and when I got a reply it encouraged me to write another letter, and then I wrote more and more letters and now it’s my hobby. I find information about people and congratulate them on their work.
“I wrote to Jack Straw and asked him to come to my high school. He accepted my invitation and he came on July 5.”
Mohammed says he is interested in people from all walks of life — politicians, heads of state, actors, authors and religious teachers. He said: “I’ve got a website that I put my letters on too. I put my life on there.”
