Lifetime honour for Blackburn deputy council leader

Coun Mohammed Khan
SENIOR councillor Mohammed Khan has been honoured by a prominent community cohesion charity.
The Blackburn with Darwen borough executive member for health and adult social care was awarded the One Voice Lifetime Achievement Award.
Coun Khan, also deputy leader of the council, came to the UK in 1965 and was awarded the OBE by the Queen in 2007.
One Voice promotes greater civic engagement and social cohesion, particularly amongst Blackburn’s deprived and disadvantaged people.
Committee members voted for the award for Coun Khan to recognise his long service to local government and his many achievements since he arrived in this country from Pakistan.
Borough deputy leader coun Khan, first elected in 1992, said: “I am overwhelmed and humbled to receive this award. It means a lot.
“Recognition such as this makes me thankful for the opportunities I have been awarded since I arrived here in 1965.”
Councillor Khan was Mayor from 2008 to 2009.
Council leader Kate Hollern, said: “I couldn’t think of anyone more worthy of this award.”
