BUILDING materials have been dumped in an alleyway that was cleaned up a year ago having previously been blighted by fly-tipping.

The alley behind Accrington Road, Intack, Blackburn, used to suffer from fly-tipping before it was given a spring clean less than a year ago.

Since then it has been free of problems but on Friday morning materials including sand, gravel and wooden planks were left abandoned, causing access problems for the residents who use it.

Martin Baybutt, 66, who runs Martin’s Original Barbers at the end of the road, said: “It is a real shame, we were only saying the other day that the alleyway has been great since it was cleaned up around a year ago.

“Then we come back from the supermarket on Friday morning and find all this rubbish dumped there, it is unbelievable.

“We reported it to the council immediately and hopefully something will be done about it as soon as possible.

“The alleyway is used by a lot by the residents in the area so it is an important route. This is going to cause a lot of problems.

“It was like this a year ago before the clean-up. It used to suffer from fly-tipping all the time but this is the first time something like this has happened in about a year.”

Coun Faryad Hussain, executive member for environmental Improvement and sustainability, said: “We investigate any incidents of fly-tipping and we prosecute where possible.

“It’s a great shame that this issue has arisen so soon after the alley being cleaned. Fly-tipping causes great disruption and upset as well as being a health hazard.

“If you see anyone dumping rubbish or acting suspiciously, please report them by calling 01254 585921.”

Blackburn has a lot fly tipping problem in back alleys in Audley,Queen's Park,Whalley Range,Brookhouse,Bas
twell for well over thirty years.Litter and dog mess is another problem in UK ,we have the worst litter and dog mess problem in Western Europe. The problem is to educate the British public about fly tipping, litter and dog mess. The education must start at school where kids need to be taught about litter, dog mess, drugs and smoking cigarettes and solvent abuse. The mosque leaders needs to inform their members about fly tiping and litter problem in Blackburn/Darwen.
I have travelled to many parts of Europe,Asia and north America and to me Britain is the most problem with litter, dog mess and fly tipping.
it's about time the Government and council get tough on litter ,dog mess and fly tipping on Britain's towns and cities.

As a proud 3rd generation immigrant, and in true immigrant fashion I would like to report as follows

Having emigrated to this country in the late 60's, our community has settled in the above mentioned wards.

I have many friends and family residing in these or so beautiful parcels of Lancashire.

I can confirm these tranquil can descant quarters of our town are not in any way blighted by fly tipping.

I am amazed Not in the slightest by the minority of let posters as ever is their style, making incredulous comments about a particular community.

You are however correct in highlighting our mosque leaders, I would go further to say all leaders in our community should educate the youth from a young age, re Drugs, smoking, drinking to grooming of females,

This should be our number 1 concern, we should work together to educate our youth from all backgrounds, this will progress this wonderful town that we proudly call Blackburn.

There is only 1 way to catch the culprits - CCTV.
Once caught on camera, they will think twice, but in reality, they will just find another place to dump.
Some people have no respect for anyone or anything - sadly this Blackburn and a lot of other towns in 2013.

You're absolutely correct. Mr Baybutt is a valued member of the community.

I would suggest the offenders may have misguided morals,

"Dont't poop in ones own nest"

The culprit(s) whom ever they are should indeed be brought to account. Let us all be extra vigilant in our localities and report such behaviour o he council.
