Student subjected to 'vicious' attack in Accrington

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl was “viciously” attacked with a knife as she walked to college in Accrington.

Police said the teenager was walking along Lancaster Avenue, on her way to Accrington and Rossendale College, when she was approached by two Asian men.

The men are said to have walked behind her into Milnshaw Park, at which point, she was assaulted by them.

The girl was punched several times and suffered a small cut to her face, believed to have been caused by a small craft knife.

Detective Inspector Jill Johnston said: “This seems to be a completely unprovoked attack and we are very keen indeed to trace the people responsible, and we would ask anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible.

“Fortunately, the girl’s injuries were only minor, but she was clearly left very shaken by what happened.

“In particular, we believe there was a man, thought to be in his 60s, who was walking a ‘Westie-type’ dog.

“The man may have witnessed what happened, but has not yet spoken to police.

“I would ask him, if he sees this appeal, to get in touch with us.

“He could have vital information.”

The attack happened at around 9.05am on Friday, September 28.

The first of the two men has been described as Asian, in his late teens to early 20s, about six feet tall, and of slim build. He was wearing a black tracksuit.

The second man has been described as Asian, and of the same age.

He was around five feet six inches tall, of stocky build, with a distinctive tattoo on the right side of his neck.

He was also wearing a black tracksuit.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting reference number EL1204043. Alternatively, information can be passed, in confidence, to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

i am appalled as my daughter walks that way every morning to college...i see alot of asians hanging around in the park when i cut through going to asda..even some that have accy academy uniforms on when they clearly should be in school...my mother in law has seen them sat on steps drinking vodka and using needles in the same park...police know about this so why arent they doing something about it...this has been going on for months but yet a blind eye has been turned yet again...why dont they bugger off and sit on there street and behave like they do see if there families like it...if the shoe was on the other foot there would be outrage!!!

Cowardly Asians venting their anger again. There are far too many examples of this type of Asian cowardice. I would wager that these two disgusting, lowlife, pieces of Asian "manhood" would not be too keen on a fair fight. This poor girl probably refused their sexual advances and then got attacked. Was this a racist attack as has been inferred? We will never know and even if it was it will not be treated as such. Never forget that the politically disorientated policies of the Labour Party got us into this mess which in towns like Accrington , Burnley and Blackburn will only get worse. Is it any wonder that house prices in areas that have a high percentage of Asians are falling.

I too hope they catch the culprits and the young girl recovers from the after effects. To say I'm shocked is an understatement. My offspring used to play in that park when we lived on the Milnshaw Estate back in the 1970s. What is it with some youths of today that they feel they need to harm people? You can't blame the current recession, as there was a recession back in the '70s and I know that all my children's peers from that area were never any trouble, but worked hard to climb various job ladders.
