A ‘DEVOTED’ dad has died after he was knocked off his bike on a roundabout.

Life-long Blackburn Rovers fan Andrew Dixon suffered fatal head injuries when he was hit by a car, leaving his two young sons and wife ‘missing a hero’.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated in a neuro intensive care unit but died the next day.

A 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and was in police custody last night.

Mr Dixon, a business development director, was described as a ‘loving son and brother’ who played a large part in many people’s lives.

Born and raised in Blackburn, where his family still live, he and his wife Sarah had settled in Weybridge, Surrey, with their sons George and Fred.

The 46-year-old, who was a keen cyclist, was riding near Addlestone Moor roundabout in the Chertsey area, when his bicycle collided with the black Toyota Aygo.

In a family statement, Sarah described him as a ‘loving son and brother’ who played a large part in many people’s lives.

She said: “Andy was a devoted dad and husband, who would do anything for his family and friends.

“An excellent cook, keen cyclist and amateur photographer, he always geared his passions around his two sons, George and Fred.

“Andy will always be remembered for his dapper shirts, his eclectic taste in music of every genre and his modest and balanced nature, all of which define him.

“At the same time, Andy was always an optimist, which was fortunate given his love for Blackburn Rovers.

“A loving son and brother, he also became a key part of the lives of so many friends.

“The whole community has been affected by Andy's sad death and the family would like to thank everyone for the incredible response over the last two weeks and would like to give a special thanks to the amazing staff at the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at St George's Hospital, Tooting.”

Mr Dixon’s family also thanked the staff at St George’s Hospital, who cared for him after the collision, which happened at around 5.45pm on September 16.

They have set up a fund for the hospital’s charity in his name.

Tributes were also paid to Mr Dixon on the Justgiving site, describing him as a ‘lovely man’ who would be ‘sadly missed’.

Haydn and Rita Daniels said: “A very sincere and pleasant young man who will be greatly missed.”

And Alys and Esther Arnold said: “We always had lots of fun with Uncle Andy and will miss him loads.

“He made the best Carbonara!”

On Facebook, David Guthrie, said: “Thoughts very much with you and boys Sarah. Please God his spirit will give you all the strength to carry on through this most difficult of all times.”

And Caroline Witherell said: “I wish there was something we could do to take away the awful pain you must be feeling. You and the boys are in our hearts and our thoughts, just take it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute... He is here with you in spirit, he must be.”
