A THREE-month-old baby has become Accrington Stanley ’s youngest shareholder.

Alfred Cooper, of Billington, attended his first game with parents Caroline and Andy, and grandma Margaret Boden, when Stanley entertained Bradford City in their last home game.

Before kick-off, Andy signed him up for a £100 share in the club, adding his name to the list of more than 700 people who have bought into the Reds.

Chief executive Rob Heys said: “It was Alfred’s first game so that will be with him for the rest of his life – that his first football match was at Accrington Stanley.

“I’m sure we’ll see him again.

“We were happy to welcome him as a new shareholder, and it shows that Accrington Stanley appeals to a wide age range.”

Andy, a surveyor, said: “We feel Accrington Stanley is a real family club and we wanted Alfred to be a part of that.

“It’s not often you get the opportunity to do something like this in football and we thought it would be a good thing to do for him so that when he grows up he will have a real affinity with the club.

“Maybe he will want to buy more shares in the future.”

After launching the £1million share issue in October, 2011, Stanley have attracted more than 700 shareholders, selling almost 3,000 shares at £100 each.

The shareholders are dotted all over the globe, from Oswaldtwistle to Australia, and famous ones include cricket commentator David Lloyd and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
