A TRUSTING six-year-old boy had his new BMX bike stolen after lending it to a teenager who promised to show him some tricks.

Levi Elliott patiently waited for the cruel trickster to return with his £300 bike, which he had only had for five days, after asking to borrow it.

The theft comes just weeks after the youngster’s beloved pet dog Oliver, was stolen from the family’s back garden in Infirmary Street, Blackburn.

At the time Levi’s dad Mark released CCTV footage of the thief to the Lancashire Telegraph and the Pug dog was found days later walking near the canal.

Blackburn University student Mark is now hoping a similar appeal will help him find the top of the range Verde Cadet 2013 BMX he bought for his son, instead of going away on a summer holiday this year.

He said: “Levi had been playing out behind our house when he came home really upset saying he had let some teenager have a go on his bike but he hadn’t come back.

“Levi said the thief had come up to him and asked for a go on his bike. Being young and naive and thinking the boy was going to show him tricks he let him have a go.

“He then asked Levi to time him riding the bike down the street but he never came back. He stood there a good 10 minutes before coming to get me.”

Despite scouring the streets close to their home shortly after the theft at 6.45pm on Monday, the pair were unable to find the bike.

Mark, 37, said: “I appeal to any parent who sees their son come home with a top of the range bike to do the right thing.

“Levi is devastated. He struggles to express his emotions and he has gone really into himself.

The bike is power blue and really distinctive.”

Levi, a pupil at St Anthony’s RC Primary School, decided to get a BMX after watching the London 2012 Olympics.

The one size fits all bike has matching blue wheel trims and the handle bars have been tilted back to fit the youngster. A spokesman for Lancashire police, said for anyone with information to call 101.
