Holiday tragedy for Blackburn family
A BLACKBURN businessman has been found dead while on holiday in Spain.
Graham Brookman, of Pleasington Lane, died while visiting the Costa Dorada with his wife and teenage children.
The 64-year-old was staying in the region of Tarragona at a luxury campsite, police said.
Officers said Mr Brookman’s body was found hanging at the Playa Montroig Campsite shortly after 7am on August 25.
His death is not being treated as suspicious by the authorities and is not being linked to ill health.
His wife Pauline-Jo Brookman said the family, who had only just returned from Spain, were too upset to talk.
Mr Brookman was the company director of Parkinson Bailiff Services Limited, which is based at The Lodge To Shaw Hill Golf Club, in Preston Road, Whittle-le-Woods.
A spokesman of Shaw Hill Golf Club, paid tribute ‘to a friendly and well liked’ man.
He said: “Mr Brookman was not a member at Shaw Hill Golf Club but he did visit here regularly with his friends and business colleagues.
“He was a very friendly man and was really well liked. He will be sorely missed by everyone here.”
A spokesman for Mr Brookman’s bailiff company said: “I can confirm Mr Brookman has sadly died. But it would not be appropriate for us to say anything else at this stage.”
East Lancashire Coroner Michael Singleton has now been notified of Mr Brookman’s death.
He is expected to open an inquest later today (Thursday).
A spokesman for the Tarragona Police said: “We were called at 7am to Camping Playa Montroig following reports of a British man being found dead.
“We can confirm this man was Graham Brookman.
“We are not treating his death as suspicious and we are not looking to speak to anyone else in connection with this.”
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the death of a British National in Costa Dorada, Spain.
“Consular assistance has been provided.”
