THERE were dramatic scenes in a busy road as police officers swooped to arrest two men.
Roman Road in Higher Croft, Blackburn, came to a standstill as three police cars, two incident support vans and another police van packed the road.
Residents in nearby Ulverston Close watched on from their gardens.
The men, believed to be on the police’s most wanted list, were caught and bundled into the waiting vans after climbing over the fence of United Utilities’ Fishmoor Reservoir site, near Fishmoor Drive.
The incident happened at 2.30pm yesterday.
The first man was dragged to the ground by an officer and, after a struggle, eventually subdued.
The second gave himself up, climbing over the fence as police stood waiting.
About 12 police officers were on the scene, with some directing traffic which backed up along the road.
Two officers were also seen scouring the field and nearby Walton Crescent estate.
One onlooker said it appeared the men had been chased through the estate and had attempted to escape via the reservoir.
Police were on the scene for 15 minutes before taking the men away and the road was cleared.
The men remained in custody for questioning last night.
