Hundreds sign up to keep notorious Blackburn killer in jail

HUNDREDS of suppporters have backed a family’s plea to keep a killer behind bars.
The family of Michelle Calvy have expressed their gratitude to a staggering 930 people who have signed a petition to keep the rapist and murderer of the 16-year-old behind bars.
Anthony Entwistle is one of East Lancashire’s most notorious killers and had served prison sentences for three rapes before he murdered the Blackburn teenager in 1987.
The 59-year-old Oswaldtwislte man is being considered for parole this year and could be released if it is judged he is no longer a danger.
The number of petition signatures has trebled in the past few days since the Lancashire Telegraph highlighted the family’s plight.
Brother Paul Calvy said he was grateful for the immense support shown.
He said: “Thank you to all that have signed this petition but we need more. Please help to keep my sisters’ killer behind bars.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Andrea Kay for getting the petition started. I can't put into words how much this means to my family and the memory of my sister Michelle. I would just like to ask everyone to please sign and share this petition.”
When originally sentenced, the judge at Preston Crown Court told Entwistle, 38, at the time, that he would die in jail. He was one of 35 murderers told they will never be released.

If the Judge has said that he 'would die in jail', what has changed since that time to make him less of a risk?
Or is this one of those cases that has been sent before the European Courts of Justice on an Human Rights issue on the grounds that no matter how heinous the crime, a prisoner should be given a determinate sentence?
This should be easily fixed by taking him back to Court to correct the sentence as given.
For the rape, 14 years, and because this is your 4th offence it will be the minimum term you serve before parole. On the count of murder, a minimum term of 30 years before being considered for parole. The sentences to be served consecutively.
In other words, go to jail for 44 years then apply for consideration for parole.
If the aged ex-Financier Bernie Madoff can get 150 in clink without killing or raping, then why can we not hand down some decent sentences, like they do in the US? One guy got sentenced to 10 000 yrs.
What will his release date be, just in case you’re worried – the year 12,744. Anyone want to plan his get-out-of-jail party?
Of course, 10 thousand years is a bit silly but a more modest 44 would do for starters.

When a new parliament is elected, one of the first orders of business, after they vote themselves a pay rise, is the thorny question of hanging. They are free to vote on their own opinions as to whether or not to re-introduce it. And here lies the problem..
If you ask a large sample size of people about it, they will say yes but MP's will vote No.
The only way to overcome this is to make sure that the prospective candidate is in favour of hanging, as it's been a waste of time asking any current MP to vote with his electors wishes.

Has anyone thought about if he IS released, where is he going to live, and will the people in that neighbourhood be informed?
Who would want him living close by? No female would be safe, no matter old they are.
Are the bigwigs going to take the risk, because if they are, why not place this serious offender in the same locality as where the judge who might free him resides - but that won't happen guaranteed.
Keep the petition going, make those involved take notice.

Due to reasons beyond our control HM Government e-petitions have closed down our e-petition after six weeks & over 2250 signatures, the reason they have given isn’t a good enough reason in my opinion for doing this after six weeks. We are currently looking into this & will hopefully have a solution in the next couple of days, we are very sorry for this and hope we can still count on your support going forward. P Calvy
