A ROAD remains shut after an HGV struck a railway bridge in Oswaldtwistle.

The incident happened at around 9.30 this morning when the vehicle, which was carrying empty intermediate bulk containers hit the structure, in Blackburn Road, West End, and spilled its load.

One of the containers fell onto a Nissan Micra, which was travelling in the opposite direction, and the female driver was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital , although her injuries are not thought to be serious.

The road has been closed in both directions from its junction with Market Street so that police can clear the area.

Trains were also stopped for around half an hour while an engineer assessed if any structural damage had been caused to the bridge.

Considering the passenger car involved was a Nissan Micra, is'nt the issan ad just a bit thoughtless?
