MORE THAN 100 Darwen jobs are to be created to meet increased demand for information about TV Licensing.

Capita, which runs a call centre from India Mill, is expanding its staff of 210 to about 340.

Bosses said 130 jobs were being created to meet increased requests for information about TV Licensing since August when Paypoint stores took over selling the permits from post offices.

Along with a call centre in Bristol, Capita handles about 40,000 calls a day from people inquiring about TV Licensing.

Joanne Daynes, manager of TV Licensing for Capita, said she hoped the mill's location on the A666 with good public transport links would be attractive to prospective employees.

"From the point of view of advancement, Capita's a huge organisation.

"There's lots of scope for career progression for people who want to get into management," she said.

She said that 80 per cent of team leaders at TV Licensing were recruited internally.

The job, which carries a starter salary of £12,500 raising to £13,000 after six months, is mainly handling incoming calls.

Mrs Daynes said the vacancies are open to anyone with a personable character who has some computer experience.

On the job training lasts between four and five weeks.

She added: "The mill has been modernised, it's a light and roomy environment, pleasant to work in."

People interested in applying should see the Lancashire Telegraph's job section which comes out on Thursdays and the firm will also have a stand at the Telegraph's recruitment fair in King George's Hall this Thursday between 9.30am and 4pm.

An open day will be held on Saturday, October 14, between 10am and 1pm.
