Pupils at East Lancashire mosque hit with piping

ASSAULT Teacher Ibrahim Yusuf ASSAULT Teacher Ibrahim Yusuf

A MOSQUE teacher has admitted hitting pupils with a plastic overflow pipe to stop them misbehaving in class.

Married father-of-eight Ibrahim Yusuf, 52, of Preston New Road, pleaded guilty to four charges of assault while he was taking a lesson at the Grimshaw Street mosque.

Yusuf, a mosque teacher of 36 years, responded to some unruly behaviour in his class by striking four boys, including one with learning difficulties.

He struck out with a thin flexible two-foot long piece of pipe which was used as a teaching aid.

Part of the incident was captured on CCTV. Two boys aged 11 were hit.

Another was hit on his arm and one on his lower back.

One of the boys was upset and told his mother who found a red mark on his back.

Yusuf told police that he had been waving the pipe around to control the class and it had struck the children.

He said that he used it as a pointing stick and to tap on the desk to get the attention of the pupils.

The mosque has a ‘no hitting’ policy.

Punishment should be through exclusion or detention.

Yusuf has taught at the Grimshaw Street mosque for 10 years.

He was bailed by Hyndburn magistrates for the prepa-ration of a pre-sentence report.

This is a regular occurrence in mosques in many towns. I know because victims have told me. They usually dare not complain. If they tell parents they are frightened of the mosque authority.

I would be more inclined to question what was taught than the method in which it was delivered.

Striking children like this is absolutely cruel, if someone ever hit my child like that they would get double back. I hope this man gets what he deserves, a sentence harsh enough to send a clear message to other imams they cannot do this!!! Hopefully prison.

What an absolute load of bs that he was waving the pipe around and it caught the children accidentally, oh please!!!

As a muslim parent myself I certainly believe this kind of behaviour in mosques is totally unacceptable.

What's new I attended Cedar street infants school in the late fifties, were the teachers had a variety of implements to inflict punishment on you, such as a thick plastic ruler across the legs (you had to stand on a chair for this because she could not be bothered bending down) another male teacher with a thick plimsole named Percy, who made you bend over before whacking your backside, and the usual cane and smacks across the face with the open hand. This was all excepted as a normal part of a day at school.maybe in today's society there is a compensation claim here

Rover78: Are the family with eight children that you comment about devoted church goers or is your comparison just a way of trying to justify one mans sexual urges? It would indeed be very interesting to know the tendencies in general regarding abnormally large families. Are these large families planned or just consequences of selfish sexual practices!

Assault on children is not a petty 'lyt' thing. (I assume that means little)

It's illegal but lets not let a thing like the law get in the way.

Punishment can be meted out without resorting to this kind of behaviour from a supposed teacher of a faith !

Oh, & by the way keep the trouser snake in your pants or teach that in your classes ! How many more folks do we need in the world for goodness sake !

Doesn't make it right Meeshoo.

There as to be a distinction to what punishment fits the situation? My experience from the 70's was that these teachers enjoyed the pain they inflicted on children & yes I say children here ! If a teacher or whichever cannot control a class then they should be in some other work that is less demanding of their tolerance. The worm as turned unfortunately through the twisted & bitter behaviour by some teachers throughout the country as time as gone by.

I experienced an instance(s) at school were the teacher literally took out his anger on certain individuals simply because of a situation that had inflicted his life. No-body could have that much anger toward a child at school for purely 'talking' in class as an e.g

Firm but fair is the best policy & with a smattering of respect for all. Works wonders, I find.

Just a thought

Regards.

This man is a brilliant teacher...

bring the cane back to the schools, children are out of hand and the only way to make em behave is they get from the teachers.. if the Parents cant do a good job then its upto the teachers.

You cant even hit your own children now without fear of getting arrested.. how do you keep em in line!

Forget all the insults about the orange beard, and how many kids this wierdo has... the point that is being missed is that the guy is a fricking looneytunes, a sandwich short of a picnic. Hitting kids with... what, sorry... a piece of piping... not lead piping, obviously...WOW, no....I bet this ginger beardie wierdie needs a wheelbarrow to pick up the child benefit, doesn't he...does he beat his own sprogs, and then expect the NHS to pick up the bill...does the nutter send his kids ( all EIGHT OF THEM ) to British schools, where they get free education, does he expect his local council to house him and his brood, and then, after they leave school, is each and everyone of those brats going to take away a job from someone who's family has been here since the year dot, and not just the last few months....I think the authorities should check his immigration status, and really, the LT should do a bit of investigative journalism, to find out, in POUNDS, SHILLINGS AND PENCE, this criminal is costing tax payers. By the photograph, looks like he is on to Capita, to see how much expenses he can claim for his day out in court. Deport, certainly, but make sure the hangers on go with the scumbag, too.

Well then, you're a prime example that corporal punishment doesn't work. If it worked you'd have never been caned in the first place(deterrent)

Failing that, you'd have only been caned once (lesson learned)

So, did it work for you?

Posters could possibly leave out the racism and acknowledge that this person has been arrested for assaulting children would the posters who cite the never did me any harm feel comfortable if this bloke assaulted their kids in the street? people who teach children especially those who have taught for decades surely know how to keep order in a classroom without physical violence and if not why are they teaching especially relevant i would have thought when teaching a child with learning. disabilities? The only lesson the children will learn is the person with the biggest stick is the winner..not a good lesson for 11 year olds surely?

This is a half story. Dispatches exposed this kind of behaviour some 5 months ago, reporter Tazeen Ahmad. The other half to this story, as investigated by Dispatches, was the extremism being taught in Mosques. The fact that the teachings were that any non Muslims were the enemy and violence toward 'the infidel' is acceptable. I think this side of the story is more important than how they choose to discipline the kids.

There is no respect for anyone these days, parents imrans, police, teachers. Kids do as they please with the threat of I will sue you, you will lose your job. They don't know what respect is.... they EXPECT to do as they please and get away with it. Sometimes they threaten teachers to say things even if it is not the case so they get there own way. It is a sorry state we are in when the kids are in control and they ARE!!! Plumbers and electricians now arrive in pairs as the threat of kids accusing them of stuff is a real issue. I'm not saying beat small kids but over the age of 10 YES they know right from wrong Yes they know what no means then bring back dicipline. The Imran could start with self diciplin by keeping it in his pants!!!

I would like to know ahas this man had a C.R.B check done!!! If you teach, look after any child then you MUST by law have one to see if you are fit. At the end of the day a teacher in a mainstream school would have been fired as well as ending up in court. I see its four counts of assault in my mind he should be made an example of & jailed but no doubt that wont happen
