STAFF at a Ramsbottom off-licence have been left ‘traumatised’ after robbers threatened them with a tyre iron before making off with cash.

Police said two men entered the Bargain Booze shop, in Bolton Road West, at around 9.30pm on Tuesday (17) and made off with a ‘small amount’ of cash.

Shop manager Ross Reynolds said a man and a woman were working at the time of the incident. A male customer was also in the shop at the time.

Although nobody was hurt in the raid, he said the employees and the customer had been left ‘shaken and traumatised’.

He said: “I wasn’t in the shop at the time. I was in Tottington, so I just missed it.

“The members of staff are trained in how to react in that sort of situation, but the customer isn’t, so it was really awful for him.

“It’s a horrible thing to happen to anybody.

“The members of staff were shaken and traumatised, but one has been back in and then the other is back on Sunday.

“We’ve been lucky really because they just took the money and went. It could have been a lot worse.”

Police said one of the men was armed with a tyre iron and both had their faces covered.

They were last seen running off in the direction of Holcombe Road.

Both men are described as white, 6ft tall, of medium build and wearing dark clothing. One was wearing black and orange Adidas trainers.

Detective Constable Dave Thorpe, of Bury CID, said: "Shops such as this usually have only small amounts of cash on the premises and these men are putting their liberty on the line for what is effectively a pittance.

"I would urge anyone who might have been in the area at the time of the robbery or who has any information about these robbers to call police."
