TODAY marks the start of Local Newspaper Week.

Every week millions of people read a local newspaper and your own voice, the Lancashire Telegraph is part of this nationwide family.

Every day we pull out all the stops to deliver the news to your door.

The Telegraph has been an integral part of the community since 1886, working hard to inform, educate and entertain.

We have also been at the forefront of the internet revolution, developing a fast-moving website which is constantly updated, bringing our reports, features, photographs and videos to more people than ever.

In troubled times we have focussed on the many East Lancashire people who have found themselves out of work, as businesses closed.

Our much praised We’re Backing Business campaign has strongly helped our region fight the recession.

Another campaign, Keep Them Safe, was heralded for its bravery in lifting the lid on an issue that had been taboo.

Following our investigation into the grooming of girls for sex by gangs of young men, a special operation to combat the crime was set up by police, councils and other agencies.

Operation Engage has been very successful and been rolled out around the county.

We also highlighted the shocking death toll of young drivers in our Wasted Lives Campaign, a bid to improve the safety through graduated driving licenses, an issue which reached parliament and which we took to 10 Downing Street.

The new Mall Shopping Centre in Church Street, Blackburn, which is now nearing completion, was started after we called for the demolition of the eyesore Lord Square.

We also helped to pressure army bosses to retain a Lancashire link when the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment became the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
