PHIL TAYLOR will be attempting to grab a hat-trick at the Reebok Stadium in June when he competes in the 2006 Budweiser UK Open.

The 13-times World Champion has won the tournament in two of the past three years since it was inaugurated by the Professional Darts Corporation.

He has also hit a perfect nine-dart leg in each of the last two years in Bolton - and will be aiming to repeat the feat again this June.

"We all strive for perfection so it's nice that I have done it twice already in the Budweiser UK Open," said Taylor.

"I'll definitely be going for it again, but the big thing will be to win the event. Nine-dart legs are just a bonus."

Taylor will come up against 127 other players when this year's tournament takes place from 9-11 June.

The top 96 professional players in an Order of Merit - which is formed from prize money won in eight qualifying events around the UK - will be joined by 32 amateurs who have come through qualifiers staged in Greene King pubs.

With £30,000 on offer for the winner out of a total prize fund of £124,000, Taylor admits that competition will be fierce.

"We are moving from a ranking points system to a money list next year, so this will be massive for all the players," said Taylor.

"There's a lot of money in the game at the moment, and it's making all the players practice harder and harder.

"The UK Open's a great event too. We all enjoy playing at the Reebok Stadium, there are eight boards going at once and it's a brilliant atmosphere."

Tickets for the event go on sale at 9.30am on Tuesday March 14 from the Reebok Stadium Box Office.

Due to England's involvement in the World Cup, there will be no play during the afternoon of Saturday June 10, although fans with tickets for the evening session will be able to watch the football within the Reebok Stadium.
