SAINTS have responded swiftly to the latest bombshell in the apparently never-ending saga regarding tug-of-war hooker Mick Higham.

Their move follows allegations by Halifax that Saints induced the player to break his contract with them after leaving Leigh, for which Blue Sox are threatening court action and seek £100,000 compensation.

The Yorkshire club has notified the Rugby Football League that they intend to take the matter to the High Court, and their solicitors were expected to serve legal papers on Saints contesting the signing of Higham, who heads for Lanzarote today.

However, Saints' chief executive Malcolm Kay, told the Star:"We cannot comment because the issue is in the hands of our solicitors, beyond adding that we acted in accordance with instructions from them after consultation with the RFL."

Meanwhile, a squad of 25 players leave Manchester this morning en-route for Lanzarote for a week's training in preparation for the World Club Championship showdown against Brisbane Broncos at Bolton on Friday, January 26. They will be accompanied by coach Ian Millward, assistants Harry Bryant and John Myler, fitness conditioner Mike McGurn and kitman Stan Wall.

World Club Challenge tickets are on sale at Saints at the following prices: Centreline premier seats, adult £20, concessions £10; East and West stand adult £16, concessions £8; North Stand adult £12, concessions £6.
