MARBLES are the latest bargaining chips being used by residents and community groups in Colne.
The Local Exchange Trading Scheme (LETS) is based at Waterbridge Resource centre and instead of paying for services or goods in pounds and pence, members trade in the official LETS currency of marbles.
Traders use a directory of services or goods on offer, which range from babysitting and ironing to dog walking and gardening and agree a price in marbles for the product they want to buy or sell.
The initiative is funded by Pendle Partnership through the European Regional Development Fund and the government's Single Regeneration Budget.
Colne Community Enterprise Outreach worker Lorna Metcalfe explained: "The scheme allows members to buy services, skills and goods without financial commitment.
"By easing financial problems and fostering community spirit the scheme will improve the quality of life for residents in Waterside and Vivary Bridge wards."
