Clarets all-rounder Paul Weller is hoping Burnley can "do a Watford" to start climbing the First Division table again.

That was the in-phrase around Turf Moor over the summer as Graham Taylor's men showed what could be achieved by a provincial club climbing out of the Second Division.

The Hornets have again set the example by arresting a dramatic slide down the table by winning back-to-back League games to climb back into the play-off picture.

And Weller is looking for the Clarets to follow suit, starting at Gillingham tomorrow.

He said: "You can in this division quite easily lose three, four or five games. You would have said Watford were certainties for promotion but all of a sudden they dipped. It can happen.

"That's the sort of league that it is. Everyone can beat each other. Blackburn have come with a good run and we just have to keep plugging away.

"There's a lot to play for. If we can get a good result at Gillingham we've then got Barnsley at home.

"If we do well in the cup we've got another cup game and then come February we could have a nice little run and to get back in that top six would be nice."

He added: "We're not getting hammered by teams and we just need to get our confidence back and start playing the way we were doing at the beginning of the season.

"We're not a bad team overnight just because we've lost a couple of games. We're still a good side and we're still in the top 10."

"Gillingham's going to be a tough place to go but we'll be doing our best."

Weller's versatility has made him a key player for the Clarets in recent games and he's ready to do whatever job manager Stan Ternent asks him tomorrow.

"I don't mind whether I'm playing up front, right wing-back or even centre midfield, I'm just pleased to be playing," he said.
