AERO engine giant Rolls-Royce has won a £660 million order from United States carrier American Airlines, it was announced today.

The deal involves maintenance of Rolls' engines on American's current fleet of 102 Boeing 757 aircraft.

The agreement will also cover a further 23 of the twin-engined 757s due for delivery this year and in 2002. The deal with the US carrier follows a Rolls-Royce announcement last week of a £590 million contract to maintain V2500 engines which power British Airways' fleet of Airbus A320 planes.

Rolls Royce has a plant at Barnoldswick, with spin-off business going to local subcontractors.
