A 17-YEAR-OLD Nelson girl is adding a dose of 'girl power' to a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Sarah Jones, a former student of Edge End High School, had wanted to be an aerospace engineer since an early age.
She said: "I knew that I wanted to work in the aerospace industry when I left school, I did some work experience at Rolls Royce in Year 10 and this helped to make up my mind about my career."
She is already a valuble team member at Rolls Royce in Barnoldswick where she is on a Modern Apprenticeship and is completely unfazed by working in a predominantly male environment.
Earlier this year, Sarah won the Irene Short Aerospace award, seeing off 149 other entries, for the best aerospace trainee in Lancashire.
She is developing her skills further with the help of training 2000 Ltd of Blackburn, and Nelson and Colne College.
The training programme teaches her key skills including: milling, turning and grinding, fitting, programming and office skills.
Sarah will act as an ambassador for the North West Aerospace Alliance for the forthcoming year.
