A 32-year-old joiner will be off work for the next three to six months after being injured in a vicious attack.

The man was walking home along Chancery Lane, Parr, at about 10pm on Tuesday, January 2, when he was attacked from behind.

He was knocked to the ground and punched and kicked by his attackers.

During the assault the victim suffered facial injuries and injuries to his left arm. He received stitches for the facial injuries and surgeons have had to operate on damaged tendons in his left arm.

Because of the severity of the injury to his arm, the joiner will not be able to return to work for at least three months.

A spokesman for the police at St Helens said that the attack appeared to be unprovoked.

Anyone who may be able to help the police with their inquiries can contact DC Keith Hill at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6064, or Crimestoppers o 0800 555 111.
