THOUSANDS of glasses will be raised to toast the brewer's art at a major regional festival. The 12th successive Bent and Bongs Beer Bash opens on Thursday, January 25 when "bashers" will sample over 100 choice drinks at the Formby Hall in Atherton. The event, organised by Atherton and Tyldesley Round Table in association with Wigan branch of the Campaign For Real Ale, will feature 75 real ales, 30-odd bottled beers, Belgian fruit beers, half a dozen or so German beers straight from the cask, plus cider, perry, wine and soft drinks.

Organiser David Dobson joked: "If you can't find a drink that suits your taste from all this choice, stick to tea!"

Around 2,500 people are expected to attend the three day festival being held on Thursday, January 25 (6pm11pm), Friday, January 26 (6pm-11pm), and two sessions on Saturday, January 27 (noon- 4pm and 7pm-11pm).

Session entertainment includes classic rock and ballads from Reform, the girl duo Halo, comedy folk duo Cracked Flag and blues/rock band Roadrunner.

Proceeds from the festival go to Francis House Children's Hospice and local charities.
