EAST Lancashire employers who help their workers balance their jobs with their home life are being encouraged to come forward for a national competition.

There are three categories for the Employer of the Year 2001 awards for small, medium-sized and large companies at a regional and national level.

The awards are sponsored by Lloyds TSB and the Department for Education and Employment. Margaret Hodge, minister for employment and equal opportunities, said that companies could transform their operations by helping their staff.

She said: "Enabling staff to juggle their busy lives through a commonsense approach to management is not just part of being a good employer. Business can also enjoy financial benefits from reduced sickness absence, better morale and less stress." Companies wanting further information should contact Claire Green, Tel: 0207 628 3565. Closing date for entries is May 10 2001.
