DARWEN 1 DAISY HILL 3 DISILLUSIONED Darwen boss Steve Wilkes has threatened to quit after another poor performance from his NWCL Division Two side.

Wilkes, a former Wigan and Preston player, has been in charge at the Anchor Ground for four years but says this is the lowest he has felt after his side slipped to their fourth loss in five games.

"I don't know what it is. I've never felt so low even when I was released from my home town club Preston as a player.

"In my four years I've been here, I've loved every minute of it but the players don't seem to be playing for me.

"It's more than just a kick about and they are not challenging for every ball. They are important games and I've told them I won't put up with it."

Wilkes was missing his top scorer Paul Baker, experienced Phil Rose and Jimmy Khan along with former Blackburn and Bolton player Mark Patterson for the clash but expected more from the eleven on the pitch.

Lee Molyneaux was left unmarked to open the scoring on six minutes, and Dominic Shrinks, despite being flanked by three Darwen defenders, headed home number two on 21.

Denny Khan found the back of the net from 25 yards to go in at the break 2-1.

"I told them at half-time, they had 45 minutes to prove to me they want to play but nothing much changed. There was no one to single out, it was the whole team. They just weren't functioning," admitted Wilkes.

Paul Prescott made it safe for Daisy Hill just after the break.

"I might feel differently in a couple of days but we've got a big game against Formby on Saturday, another big game, and I'll have to see what happens then."
