NEWLY-CROWNED World Indoor Trials champion Dougie Lampkin continued his rich vein of form with a win in the Spanish outdoor series.

Lampkin, who rides for the Burnley-based Sandiford Motorcycles team, clinched victory at the Pontevedra venue by a single mark from the up and coming Marc Freixa.

The event, located an hour south of Valencia, featured some typically Spanish sections, with the majority of the hazards situated on steep, dry rocky outcrops.

Defeated at the opening round by his Montesa team mate Cobos, Lampkin was determined to ensure that it was him who took the victory on this occasion.

Watched by several thousand fans, the Sisden rider took control of the event right from the start, keeping his score to an absolute minimum through the first nine sections.

The next five hazards then proved to be of little overall consequence, with three being the best possible score in sections 10, 11 and 12 and sections 13 and 14 proving totally impossible for all the riders.

After the first lap of 15 sections Lampkin headed a very on-form Freixa by a mere two marks, due to there being limited opportunity to create any real margin. With the afternoon temperature rising,

Lampkin matched his earlier performance, again posting a score of twenty three for his second and final lap and giving him victory by the narrowest of margins.

Pleased to have not only won the trial but to have established a healthy lead in the overall standings so early in the series, Lampkin said: "I never thought it was going to be easy to win in Spain, and with there only being a few sections to carve out a lead, it was always going to be tight."
