THE body of accident victim Mohammed Younis is to be flown Pakistan for burial.

Mr Younis, 59, was knocked down in Brierfield on Sunday by a Toyota Corolla car which was being followed by a police traffic car.

At an inquest opening in Burnley yesterday, Nadeem Younis of Meadow Close, Reedley, said his father, of Mosley Street, Nelson, died at Burnley General Hospital on Tuesday. His father suffered from hypertension and some muscular problems but they didn't affect his walking.

He said his father wore glasses most of the time and his hearing was perfectly normal.

Mr Younis said his mother had gone on a visit to Pakistan on February 13 and his father had been staying at his home in Reedley. He said that on Sunday his father visited family and friends in Nelson. He decided to walk back to Reedley and was on his way through Brierfield when the accident happened.

Mr Younis said he was making arrangements for his body to be returned to Pakistan.

Mr Younis was a retired businessman who used to have a video shop in the Whalley Range area of Blackburn.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter and five grandchildren.

Mr Younis was well known for his community work in the area. East Lancashire Coroner David Smith said a post mortem examination revealed that Mr Younis died from a head injury.

He adjourned the inquest sine die pending the completion of police investigations and court hearings.

A 20-year-old local man, Kamran Ahmed of Halifax Road, Brierfield, has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and other motoring offences.

He was remanded in custody.
