LAMBERT Howarth, the former Burnley-based footwear company, has announced a fall in profits, following difficult trading conditions on the high street.
The company, which closed down manufacturing in East Lancashire in the late 1990s with the loss of hundreds of jobs, said profit before tax for 2000 was £11.3 million, down from £12.2 million in 1999.
Now London-based, Lambert Howarth has diversified into soft furnishings, home accessories and giftware.
All that's left of its East Lancashire operations is the former factory at Healey Royd, now used for warehousing.
The City reacted badly to the figures and, within hours of the announcement, the share price had fallen to 161p, wiping £6 million off the value of the company.
