A MASKED gang escaped with £6,000 worth of cash during an armed raid on a Whitefield supermarket.
Five men smashed their way into the Kwik Save store in Elms Square shortly after 6pm on Monday (March 12) and threatened staff with a monkey wrench and a small handgun.
One of the four store assistants, who were restocking shelves, was forced to open a safe and hand-over a number of cash bags containing the day's takings.
The gang then fled the store and made off in a silver Vauxhall Vectra.
Detectives are now keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the early evening raid or who knows where the Vauxhall car had been stored prior to the robbery.
Detective Constable Kevin McDermott of Whitefield CID said: "The car had been stolen from the Stockport area on March 8 and used that day during a burglary at a business in Whitefield.
"We would like to know where this silver Vauxhall Vectra had been kept prior to the incident."
No-one was injured during Monday night's raid. The manager of the store was unavailable for comment.
