A 100-YEAR-OLD Burnley woman has donated her collection of dolls to Towneley Hall for a special exhibition.
Marianne Widdows, who was born at Healey Heights in Burnley, but now lives in Southport, started collecting the dolls as a hobby in 1945 and continued until she was in her 80s. The figurines, dressed in historical costumes, were made in the 1940s and 1950s, and Marianne has showed them all over Britain and Europe, as well as exhibiting them during the 1961 Edinburgh Festival.
A selection of 42 hand-made dolls are now on show at Towneley Hall, depicting figures from medieval times through to the 1960s.
