RHYS Carpenter underlined his goal-scoring reputation to provide a tonic for Burnley's young guns.

Striker Carpenter, who scored his first reserve team goal this week, also helped the Youth Team chalk up a hard-fought 2-1 win at Carlisle with his sixth goal of the campaign.

The third-year scholar gave Terry Pashley's men the lead with a smart finish following good work by Marc Pugh and Danny Pitham.

Carlisle levelled matters soon after, but 15-year-old James Heywood came up with a winner to earn the youth team their fourth win of the season.

Youth team coach Terry Pashley said: "The lads battled hard and deserved the win and it's good to see them keep improving.

"They keep having a go and that's all we can ask."

Burnley's scholars are back in action this Saturday with a home game against Bury. Kick off at Gawthorpe is 11am.
