THE only all-British factory team contesting the Wales Rally GB have two targets in sight this weekend.

MG Sport and Racing have two Michelin-backed, group N 'showroom class' ZR rally cars out on the event, which will also be used to publicise their unique scholarship scheme.

Welshman Gwyndaf Evans will spearhead the marque's campaign alongside experienced co-driver Clare Mole, the pair are pictured above.

A former British Rally Champion, Evans is also acting as mentor to the candidates for the MG Rally Scholarship, a programme to find and nurture the rally stars of tomorrow.

The scheme offers entrants with no previous rally experience the chance to compete in eight rallies against fellow novices in identical MG ZRs.

"Driving a group N ZR will be very different from the Super 1600 car I've been driving in the British Championship, but it's incredibly tough and more than up to the challenge of a WRC event," said Evans. "From the point of view of the scholarship, the candidates drive similar ZRs and it's great that they get to see exactly what the car can do."

Backing up the pair in an identical-specification ZR are the Sportinglife.com-backed duo of Tony Jardine and Kevin Eason.

Jardine, better known as ITV's Formula One expert, has contested 12 Rally GBs, while Eason, motoring editor of The Times, made his debut two years ago.
