PADIHAM won a lively contest at Oldham Town last night to record a third successive North West Counties League Division Two victory and close the gap on the leading teams.

James Gill opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he raced on to a Jamie Edmondson throughball and rounded Oldham keeper Gareth Jones to make it 1-0.

Edmondson headed Padiham further ahead on the half hour, meeting a perfectly floated free kick from Anthony McCluskey with power and accuracy to give the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Oldham had Padiham scrambling to protect their lead and after missing a number of half chances finally opened their account when James Agoo took full advantage of a loose ball to pull a goal back after 65 minutes.

Oldham continued to test the Storks' defensive qualities but Padiham finally made the points safe 11 minutes from time when captain Anthony McCluskey chipped the home keeper with a superb 25-yard strike that was worthy of winning any game.
