WITH Accrington Stanley's appearance in the FA Cup first round, football fever is gripping the town.
And that was added to yesterday when the world famous trophy arrived in the town ahead of Sunday's match against Huddersfield Town.
As part of the countdown to the kick-off, sponsors of the competition took the coveted silverware to East Lancashire. The cup was on display at the Broadway branch of the town's Nationwide Building Society - Nationwide being one of the main sponsors of the FA Cup.
Organiser Chris Hull, of the Nationwide Building Society, said the eyes of the football world have turned to Accrington. He added: "The Nationwide is delighted to bring the cup to Accrington and be part of the FA Cup fever which is gripping the nation.
"It is fantastic for the football club and for the community. We have been giving people the chance to be part of the dream and part of the magic.
"Let's hope the visit will inspire the team to a winning performance on Sunday."
Former England and Blackburn Rovers captain Ronnie Clayton also delighted fans as he accompanied the trophy to Accrington.
Customer adviser Jane Ainsworth, added: "Everyone was so excited all day and the customers were keen to see what it looks like in real life."
