HOTSHOT Paul Mullin is determined to win his fitness battle in time for Sunday's FA Cup showdown with Huddersfield Town.

The Accrington Stanley striker missed training last week after sustaining a calf injury in the fourth qualifying round win over Leigh RMI.

As a result, Mullin was forced to sit out Saturday's trip to Gravesend and Northfleet in an effort to be involved on Sunday.

And, after undergoing extensive treatment and doing light training on Tuesday night, the 29-year-old was hoping to complete his first full training session for two weeks tonight.

"It's better but I'm just going to see how it goes," said Mullin, who scored the second goal in Stanley's 2-0 win over Leigh to secure their place in the FA Cup first round.

"I was struggling last Thursday night and had it strapped up before the game on Saturday to see if I could run around on it but it gave me a bit of bother.

"I've never had a problem in my calf before. I don't even know how I did it because I didn't feel it until the Monday after the game.

"I just thought it was a bit of stiffness but it got worse throughout the week and I couldn't train at all.

"But with the game being on Sunday it gives me an extra day to recover because I can't really afford to go into a game like that with an injury on my mind."

Mullin will be doing further work with Stanley physio Sean Brush as he aims to make a full recovery in time for the big kick-off against Third Division Huddersfield (kick-off 1pm).

For the striker is desperate to make his FA Cup first round bow and BBC debut as he enjoys a season he almost didn't have with Stanley.

"The season's only three months old and already we'll have been on television twice," said financial adviser Mullin.

"It's been amazing really because it was a big decision for me whether I could commit to it this season because of work, but I'm glad I did.

"I'm going to try to enjoy Sunday because the televised Aldershot game seemed to fly by, plus I've never played this far in the FA Cup so it will be a really special day."
